Ordering showers and taps for your bathroom can be challenging, especially if you do not know or understand your water system. Fear not! we have prepared a handy guide for you to identify your water system, so you can be sure to order the correct bathroom tap or shower. Some common water systems in the UK are gravity-fed, mains pressure and combination boilers. Use the guide below to identify your water system. You should also know your water pressure value before you order any products. A plumber/installer can measure it for you with a gauge.
Gravity Fed System
Gravity fed systems are commonly found in older properties where you will find a cold water tank in the loft and a hot water cylinder to provide water at low pressure.
Low Pressure – (LP) 0.2BAR
- 0.2 BAR
Combi boiler System
Combination boiler systems heat water directly from the mains and provide hot water on demand.
• No storage tanks in property
A 28KW combi boiler will typically provide between 1Bar – 1.5Bar pressure
*Pressure is dependent upon the age and size of the combi boiler plus the mains water pressure.
- 1.0 / 1.5 BAR
Mains High Pressure System
Unvented pressurised cylinders such as a megaflow, store hot water at mains pressure and deliver it to multiple outlets without losing pressure.
• Unvented cylinder with an expansion cylinder
• No cold water storage tank in the loft
• Stored hot water
• Balanced Pressure
• Limited to Mains Pressure
High Pressure – (HP) 1.0 – 3.0 BAR
- 1.0 / 3.0 BAR
